Last year early September, my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He had surgery then to remove parts of the tumor for further research. I had tickets for both shows of The Symphonic Synergy shows and booked the hotel way in advance. Even though I was looking forward to these shows for so long, with that situation, I didn’t want to go. I wanted to stay near him and my mother, but they insisted me to go. Rationally, there wasn’t anything I could do and he was doing fine, but with news like that it just doesn’t feel right to be on the other side of the country. I had some difficult moments in Amsterdam, especially when I was alone with all my thoughts. During the queueing for both shows, I didn’t tell anyone what was going on, because I tried to find distraction instead. That partially helped. Both shows have impressed me for a lifetime and during the shows, I wasn’t busy with the situation at home. Until Aspiral was played. That song resonated deeply with me and comforted me in a way nothing else could. It was a feeling, most of the lyrics I couldn’t hear, but that song gave such hope, especially when it builds up, the choirs coming in, the confetti coming down. It was so comforting, so magical, so utterly helpful. One line stayed with me: keep hope alive and watch the tables turn. A month later, in October, we learned that my father had stage 4 bladder cancer, which basically meant it was beyond treatment. Only palliative, not even a prognosis of years anymore. My father is just 65. And because of that, because he was in great physical shape, the doctors wanted to try treatment with chemotherapy. A long treatment which would last for months, very intense, and the only reason it was possible was because his condition was so good. The chance for sufficient effects? Small, really small, but a chance nonetheless. This line, keep hope alive and watch the tables turn, I kept holding on to it. After chemotherapy completed recently we learned that it has done its job! And because of that, my father had surgery yesterday to remove the affected organs. I kept hope alive and watched the tables turn. The road to possible recovery is still long, right now we are waiting to hear if there really isn’t any cancer cell left on the removed organs. If there is, more treatment therapy is needed, if there isn’t, recovery can happen. But whatever happens next, I will keep hope alive, the situation now is much better than anyone could’ve thought. That exactly today, the day after my father’s surgery, you release this song, is again very special. I will cherish this experience at The Symphonic Synergy forever and this song is already monumental to me for its meaning. My connection to Aspiral, the album, is already so strong because of this experience. That’s why I wanted to share it with you and anyone who cares to read this all. Thank you 🫶🏻
