From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The politics of Lahore takes place at the city district level. The city district government of Lahore is responsible for administration of the city. Lahore is the capital city and political seat of the Punjab, Pakistan's largest province in terms of population. The Government of Punjab is centered in Lahore, with the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, Chief Minister and Governor of Punjab based in the city.

Historically, Lahore was an important political center, serving as the capital of several empires and dynasties in South Asia. It was also the largest city of the undivided Punjab region. During the mid twentieth century, it became important in the Pakistan Movement, with the passing of the Lahore Resolution.

The Pakistan Muslim League (N) led by the Sharif family of Lahore has been the largest and most popular ruling party. Recently, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf of Imran Khan has also made progressive inroads into the politics of Lahore, attracting considerable support among the city's strong upper and middle class urban votebank.
